Dell tossed a bag into the back of his truck as he turned to his friend. “That should be the last of it” he told her “you’re not forgetting anything, are you? First aid, food, water, fishing gear. Check, check check” he muttered to himself “got my acoustic in the truck with us…”
The trip was a bit last minute, throwing it all together. Dell had learned that Mess’ birthday had come and gone, and insisted on taking her camping as his gift. It was always a favorite past time of his, and wanted to do it with a close friend. He closed the tailgate with a small slam and nodded “I think I got everything I need.”
One one smooth motion Dell pulled the keys out of his pocket and gave them a small jingle “are you ready?”
She checked her bags one more time. She’d managed to not overpack- which was helped by not having a ton of possessions in the first place. She was dressed in flannel and jeans, her hair tucked up in a n old cowboy hat. She was also smiling ear to ear and had her own fishing pole and seine net sticking out of her backpack.
“I’ve got everything yeah. First aide, extra batteries for my transistor, belaying cords and shit just in case, flint, more flint, knives, MREs, doc made me take a water purifying kit, even though boiling is a thing, because she’s a hen…”
She finger gunned at Dell and tossed her bags into the flatbed over the tailgate, rolling her shoulders.
“Absolutely captain.” She hopped up into the passenger seat.
“Not only is she a kind and great friend, but I love her laugh and sense of humor. She’s a f- big ole sweetheart and I just enjoy being in her presence. She’s supportive and comforting, and a hugger which I’m so grateful for. Then we factor in her being an absolute badass- eloquently even! I look up to her a lot.”
